Sedina Tamakloe in custody currently — Adawudu

A member of the legal team for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Victor Adawudu, has confirmed that Sedina Tamakloe, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), is presently in the custody of the Ghana Prisons Service following her extradition to Ghana.

His remarks were made in response to accusations from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) claiming that the government is protecting Sedina Tamakloe from serving a 10-year prison sentence imposed by the Accra High Court.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Adawudu refuted these allegations and asserted that the relevant state institutions are executing the court’s directives.

“All I know is that there are appropriate authorities that are supposed to ensure that the orders of the court are being enforced. So, to my knowledge, she is in the hands of the Ghana Prisons and the security people,” he stated in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Citi News.

He further suggested that those seeking additional information should utilise the Right to Information process instead of relying on conjecture.

“I am sure that with an application through the Right to Information, they will be given [the information], rather than speculation. But I can tell you that she is in the hands of the security, as she was handed over by the US authorities,” Mr. Adawudu remarked.

Sedina Tamakloe returned to Ghana on June 9 after being extradited from the United States to serve a 10-year prison sentence related to financial losses incurred by the state during her leadership at MASLOC.

Her arrival in Ghana has sparked considerable public and political interest, raising questions about the procedures involved in her extradition and subsequent incarceration.
