Imam Masud Abdullah, Apostle Daniel JY Adjei and Alhaji Sibamay Zakaria, popularly known as Papa Angola, have publicly reconciled following a religious controversy that recently generated tensions between sections of Ghana’s Christian and Muslim communities.
The three men came together on Friday, August 14, 2026, during an interfaith engagement organised by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at the Police Headquarters in Cantonments, Accra.
The meeting brought together Muslim and Christian religious leaders to promote calm, tolerance and peaceful coexistence following a series of incidents involving the three men.
Imam Masud, 35, was arrested over a video in which he called for people who insult Prophet Mohammed to be killed or beheaded.
Apostle Daniel JY Adjei was later arrested after a video emerged showing him using derogatory language against Prophet Mohammed.
Tensions increased further after another video showed Papa Angola verbally abusing and physically assaulting Apostle Daniel while the latter was handcuffed and in police custody.
Addressing the gathering, IGP Yohuno said the Police had acted to prevent the situation from escalating but stressed that law enforcement alone could not resolve the tensions.
“Violence will not fix what words have broken,” he said, while warning that religious extremism and vigilante actions had no place in Ghana.

The IGP disclosed that the three men were currently on bail as investigations continued.
Religious leaders at the meeting called on their followers to exercise restraint and avoid hate speech, provocation and violence.
Bishop Dr Agyei Lawson urged religious leaders to use their platforms to promote dialogue and mutual respect, stressing that Ghana’s religious diversity should be a source of unity.
At the end of the engagement, Imam Masud, Apostle Daniel and Papa Angola shook hands and embraced each other before the audience as a public demonstration of reconciliation.
