The relatives of Awudu Issaka, a lecturer employed at Gbewa College of Education who reportedly succumbed following an alleged beating by military forces in Bawku, organised a demonstration in Binduri to seek justice.
The relatives, accompanied by several residents from Binduri, first paid a formal visit to the Binduri Naba, Naba Alhaji Akuom, and subsequently delivered a formal complaint to the Binduri District Chief Executive (DCE).
According to the relatives, Mr Issaka was held by military forces on September 11, 2026, during security operations in Bawku for purportedly breaching the imposed curfew.
The relatives assert that he sustained injuries during this confrontation and subsequently expired at the Quality Medical Centre in Bawku.
The conditions encompassing his passing have subsequently prompted demands for an inquiry and responsibility.
The protesters assembled at the Binduri Chief Palace on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, where they appealed to the government and pertinent bodies to examine the occurrence and guarantee that accountable parties face consequences.
The Binduri Naba, Naba Alhaji Akuom, demonstrated backing for the relatives’ pursuit of justice and encouraged the authorities to undertake a prompt and comprehensive examination into the factors contributing to Mr Issaka’s passing.
Within their formal submission, the relatives additionally requested that the government guarantee equitable resolution and that the conditions surrounding the educator’s passing are thoroughly clarified.
Family spokesperson Anoya Daniel said the family would continue to pursue justice for their deceased relative.
The relatives are furthermore demanding openness and responsibility in the administration of the matter.
