Ashanti NPP constituency chairmen plan vigil for Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Constituency Chairmen’s Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to hold a night vigil in support of the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, following his recent conviction and sentencing.

The vigil is scheduled to take place on August 14, 2026, at the DMB Regional Office in Asokwa on the eve of the NPP’s Ashanti Regional elections.

The caucus says the gathering is intended to demonstrate unity and unwavering support for the regional chairman during what it describes as a difficult period.

In a statement issued on July 27, 2026, the caucus expressed the belief that Chairman Wontumi had been treated unfairly.

It stated that members considered the court’s decision an injustice and wanted to publicly show their solidarity with him.

According to the statement, the event will also serve as a tribute to Chairman Wontumi’s years of service and leadership within the party in the Ashanti Region.

The caucus praised his contribution to the growth and strength of the NPP in the region, describing his tenure as one marked by remarkable achievements and dedicated leadership.

Beyond showing support for the embattled chairman, the organisers said the vigil would send a strong message both within Ghana and abroad that party members would continue to stand by one of their own and make their concerns known.

The caucus has invited constituency executives, party supporters and sympathisers across the region to attend the event.

Organisers assured participants and the general public that the vigil would be conducted in a peaceful, orderly and disciplined manner.
