Twenty-seven peop to contest NPP Eastern Regional executive elections.le have officially filed their nominations to contest various positions in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Eastern Regional executive elections, which will be held on August 9, 2026.
The election is part of the party’s nationwide reorganisation aimed at electing new regional executives who will lead the NPP for the next four years.
The nomination process ended on Friday, July 17, with former government officials, current regional executives, and new aspirants all joining the race for different leadership positions.
One of the aspirants is former Fanteakwa South Member of Parliament, Okyere Agyekum, popularly known as Arafat, who is contesting for the position of First Vice Chairman.
The Head of Electoral Affairs for the Eastern Regional Elections Committee, David Prah, said the nomination process was peaceful, transparent, and well organised.
He assured party members and delegates that the committee would conduct a free, fair, and credible election. He also urged all aspirants and their supporters to follow the party’s rules and maintain peace throughout the campaign period.
One of the most closely watched contests will be for the Regional Chairman position. Incumbent Chairman Jeff Konadu Addo is seeking another term and will face former New Juaben North Constituency Chairman, Kwadwo Boateng Agyemang.
The Regional Organizer race is also expected to attract attention, with incumbent Jerry Osei Poku competing against the current Regional Youth Organizer, Adamu Raha.
For the Regional Secretary position, Tony Osei-Adjei will face former Akuapem North Municipal Chief Executive, Barima Awuah Asiedu Larbi.
The contest for Regional Women’s Organizer will feature three candidates: incumbent Mercy Amo Darko, popularly known as Obour, former Women’s Organizer Fati Vondoli, and New Juaben South Women’s Organizer Regina Bempong.
Former Eastern Regional MASLOC boss Elfreda Aboagye is also in the race for Regional Treasurer, where she will compete against Sena Debrah Anthony.
Meanwhile, some executive positions will not be contested because only one person filed nominations, allowing some incumbent executives to go through unopposed.
The outcome of the elections is expected to shape the NPP’s preparations and strategy as the party begins planning for the 2028 general elections.
