Chelsea agrees personal terms with Pep Chavarría

Chelsea is moving closer to signing Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarría after reportedly agreeing on personal terms with the player, with negotiations between both clubs now underway.

The Spanish defender has given the green light to the move and is said to be keen on joining Chelsea, with a strong interest in working under new head coach Xabi Alonso.

Talks between Chelsea and Rayo Vallecano are ongoing as both sides try to reach an agreement on the transfer fee.

According to reports, Chavarría is viewed as a key target for Chelsea as the club continues to strengthen its defensive options ahead of the new season.

The Blues are expected to make changes at left-back following squad adjustments, with the position identified as an area needing reinforcement.

Rayo Vallecano, however, are in a strong negotiating position. The La Liga side recently tied Chavarría down to a long-term contract running until 2030, and his release clause is believed to be around €50 million.

The Spanish club are reportedly unwilling to lower their valuation, meaning Chelsea may need to meet the clause or significantly increase their offer to complete the deal.

Chavarría, 28, has established himself as a consistent performer in La Liga since joining Rayo in 2022 from Real Zaragoza.

Known for his energy, work rate and defensive discipline, he has become an important figure in the squad, making over 100 appearances across all competitions during his time at the club.

His rise has been steady through Spain’s lower divisions, having previously played for Figueres, Olot and Zaragoza before breaking into top-flight football.

His performances at Rayo have attracted attention from several European clubs, with Chelsea now leading the race for his signature.

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is believed to be a strong admirer of the player’s tactical discipline and reliability, qualities that fit into his preferred system, which often relies on full-backs or wing-backs contributing both defensively and offensively.

While an agreement between the clubs has not yet been finalised, optimism is growing that a deal can be reached if negotiations progress positively in the coming days.

Other clubs are also said to be monitoring the situation, but Chelsea remains in a strong position after securing the player’s personal terms.
