The Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C. has announced that it has yet to receive tickets allocated for Ghanaian supporters living in the United States ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a public notice issued to the Ghanaian diaspora community, the embassy said the tickets had not arrived and that details on how they will be distributed will be communicated once the allocation is received.
The statement comes after growing interest among Ghanaians in the United States who want to attend matches and support the Black Stars during the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico, with Ghana among the nations set to compete.
The move to secure tickets for diaspora supporters follows an announcement by President John Dramani Mahama that the government would focus on helping Ghanaians already living in host countries attend matches rather than organising large-scale travel arrangements from Ghana.
The decision was linked to the high cost of transportation, accommodation and other expenses involved in sending supporters abroad.
Sports Minister Kofi Adams has also stated that the distribution of approximately 1,000 World Cup tickets for Ghanaian supporters in the diaspora will be handled transparently and fairly.
He acknowledged that demand is expected to be higher than the number of available tickets.
The Ghana Football Association has previously advised fans to use official channels for World Cup ticket purchases and warned supporters that demand for tickets has exceeded available allocations.
