New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Director hopeful Dennis Miracles Aboagye has rejected claims that the party’s chances of winning the 2028 general election depend on the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) failing in office.
According to him, the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will secure victory based on the strength of his own ideas, policies and vision for Ghana rather than relying on public dissatisfaction with the current government.
Speaking on TV during a panel discussion on Ghana’s economy on July 27, 2026, Dennis said voters would not simply judge the NDC’s performance but would also carefully examine the alternatives offered by other political parties before deciding who deserves their support.
He explained that the 2028 election would be about comparing the direction each party intends to take the country and determining which candidate has the best plans to improve the lives of Ghanaians.
“In 2028, we are not going to ask how much the NDC failed to make Dr Bawumia president,” he stated, adding that the electorate would assess the various political messages presented to them.
Dennis argued that even if the economy records improvements under the NDC administration, the party could still lose power if Ghanaians believe another candidate has a better vision for the future.
He noted that voters from different sectors of society, including teachers, nurses, mechanics, entrepreneurs and other professionals, would evaluate Dr Bawumia’s proposals and decide whether they address their concerns.
“The teacher will be listening to Dr Bawumia and see what he is telling him. The nurse will be listening to him. The mechanic and the businessman will also be listening,” he said on ChannelOne.
The NPP communicator urged the NDC government to focus on delivering on its promises instead of concentrating on the opposition party’s political strategies.
He said the governing party must explain its decisions and convince Ghanaians that its policies are in the best interest of the country.
He maintained that the 2028 elections would ultimately be decided by the confidence Ghanaians have in the competing visions and leadership abilities of the candidates, rather than the failures of any single political party.
