The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a fire outbreak at the Kumasi Kejetia Market.

The team managed to save goods valued at hundreds of Ghana cedis safely.

The fire originated from a shop specialising in the sale of matches and was promptly extinguished by fire officers.

The cause of the fire, which took place on Monday, April 20, 2026, remains unknown at this time.

However, the affected shop suffered losses amounting to hundreds of cedis due to the blaze.

In an interview monitored by The Ghana Report with OTEC FM, Ernest Afayam, the Acting Managing Director of Kumasi City Market Limited, revealed that only one shop was impacted by the fire.

“We are fortunate that the fire service personnel stationed at the market responded swiftly, which helped prevent the fire from spreading,” he stated.

He also mentioned that the market management will continue to monitor traders to ensure compliance with the established regulations governing the facility.

Additionally, Nana Kwasi Prempeh, the President of the Federation of Kumasi Traders, commended the GNFS officers for their rapid response.

He encouraged traders to remain vigilant in their operations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service has initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the fire.
