Private legal practitioner Kwesi Botchway Jnr has been appointed as the Secretary to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Security, Intelligence and Defence Committee as the party steps up preparations for the 2028 general elections.

The appointment is part of a wider reshuffle and reorganisation of the party’s Standing and Sector Committees by the NPP’s National Executive Committee and National Council during a meeting held on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, and released on Friday, May 8, 2026.

According to the statement, the committees were formed in line with the party’s constitution to help strengthen the NPP’s internal structures, improve policy development, engage stakeholders better and prepare the party strongly for the next elections.

Under the Security, Intelligence and Defence Committee, former Minister and Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong and Assin South MP John Ntim Fordjour were appointed as Co-Chairs.

Richard Gyamfi and Fatimatu Abubakar will serve as spokespersons, while Lawyer Kwesi Botchway Jnr takes up the role of Secretary.

The party said the committees are expected to provide leadership, strategic direction and support across different sectors of the party’s work as it positions itself for the 2028 elections.

The NPP also expressed confidence in the newly appointed members and believes they will serve diligently in the interest of both the party and Ghana.
