The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has graduated 1,275 students at the first session of its 18th Congregation for the School of Graduate Studies and UPSA Law School.
The graduating class comprises 189 students from the Law School and 1,086 from the School of Graduate Studies.
Of the 189 law graduates, four obtained First Class, while 57 secured Second Class Upper, 67 obtained Second Class Lower, 51 attained Third Class, and 10 graduated with Pass.
The School of Graduate Studies presented 1,086 graduates, including 73 Master of Philosophy students, 554 Master of Business Administration graduates, 196 Master of Arts graduates, 222 Master of Science graduates and 41 Master of Laws graduates.
For the first time in the university’s history, four master’s degree students achieved a perfect final cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.0.
Speaking at the ceremony, UPSA Vice Chancellor, Professor John Mensah Mawutor, said the university introduced 16 new academic programmes during the year.
They include PhD in Public Policy and Leadership, MPhil and MSc in Applied Statistics, MSc Energy Economics and Finance, MBA Leadership and Strategy, MBA Human Resource Management and MBA Business Management.
Other programmes include MBA Asset and Wealth Management, various LLM programmes, BSc Applied Statistics, BSc Data Science and Analytics, BSc Agribusiness and Finance, and BA Applied French and Communication.
Prof. Mawutor said the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Studies was graduating its first batch of MPhil Information Systems students, while the Faculty of Management Studies was also graduating its first cohort of MPhil Management Studies students.
He added that the UPSA Law School was presenting its first graduates from three new LLM programmes.
On the Pre-Bar Course, he said 239 UPSA Law School applicants had been admitted and registered for the one-year programme designed to bridge the gap between the LLB and Law Practice Training.
Meanwhile, Universal Merchant Bank CEO Dr Philip Oti-Mensah urged the graduands to remain focused, explore opportunities in the world of work and cultivate humility in their professional lives.
