Abu Trica extradited to US despite court move to stop transfer

Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has reportedly been extradited to the United States on the morning of July 9, 2026.

Reports suggest that he departed Ghana on Delta Airlines flight DL 157.

The extradition occurred shortly after his lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, revealed that Kumi had been taken to the Police Hospital in Accra and expressed concerns regarding his client’s alleged denial of access to legal counsel.

The lawyer also mentioned that he was unable to find or meet with him prior to his departure.

Abu Trica has been embroiled in a lengthy extradition process following a formal request from the United States for his surrender.

He is sought in the US for alleged involvement in financial crimes, including money laundering and fraud schemes that reportedly defrauded investors of substantial amounts.

The case has garnered public interest in Ghana, sparking discussions about extradition procedures, citizens’ rights, and the nation’s international legal responsibilities.

Abu Trica had submitted an application to the Accra High Court contesting the extradition process, but the court dismissed the application, clearing the way for his transfer.
