A man from Macheleyili, a community in Kpatinga in the Gusheigu District of the Northern Region, has reportedly died by suicide after struggling to raise money for his son’s Senior High School admission requirements.
The deceased, identified as Alhaji Abdulai, is said to have been distressed over his inability to provide the money needed to purchase items listed on his son’s SHS prospectus.
Residents of the community told reporters that Abdulai had repeatedly spoken about the financial difficulties he was facing in meeting the admission requirements.
According to them, he had on several occasions expressed fears about his inability to raise the needed funds and allegedly threatened to take his own life if he could not secure the money.
Residents said he left home on the morning of Sunday, September 20, 2026, but failed to return later in the day.
His body was reportedly discovered in the community on the afternoon of Monday, September 21.
The circumstances surrounding his death have since drawn concern among residents, particularly over the financial pressure families can face when preparing children for SHS admission.
