La Liga president Javier Tebas has rejected suggestions that referees are deliberately targeting Real Madrid, describing the claims as another attempt to explain the club’s difficulties at the start of the season.
Tebas said a familiar narrative had emerged whenever Real Madrid faced controversy, with discussions shifting between alleged conspiracies, refereeing decisions and the experience of match officials.
He argued that claims of referees targeting the Spanish giants were difficult to justify and said such arguments could distract from issues visible in the team’s performances on the pitch.
“The usual narrative of a conspiracy has already started,” Tebas said.
He noted that when the controversy does not involve the Negreira case, attention turns to referees or their level of international experience.
According to Tebas, blaming officials is easier than examining what is happening during matches, particularly with the season still in its early stages.
He also criticised the suggestion that the league had already been manipulated, pointing out that such claims were being made as early as September.
Tebas maintained that repeatedly attributing Real Madrid’s problems to external factors does not adequately explain the events witnessed during the opening matches of the campaign.
