The defending champions, Eastern Region, have secured a place in the final of the 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship after defeating Brong Ahafo Region 4-2 in an exciting semi-final clash at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The victory means Eastern Region will have the opportunity to defend the title they won in the inaugural edition of the competition last year. They will face Ashanti Region in the final on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Eastern Region started the semi-final strongly and took the lead in the 38th minute through Michael Tetteh Jnr. His goal gave the defending champions a 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
Brong Ahafo, however, returned from the interval with greater determination and eventually found the equaliser in the 68th minute.
Osafo Antwi finished off the opportunity to bring the game level and put pressure on the defending champions.
Eastern Region responded quickly as they regained control of the match. Ransford Siaw restored their lead in the 77th minute before Sahd Dawud added another goal five minutes later to give Eastern a 3-1 advantage.
Brong Ahafo continued to fight, and Seidu Nayilu reduced the deficit late in the game. Their efforts were not enough, however, as Eastern Region remained composed and added a fourth goal to complete a 4-2 victory.
The result is a remarkable recovery for Eastern Region, who lost 3-2 on the opening day of the tournament. They have since improved their performances and are now just one game away from successfully defending their crown.
Ashanti Region secured the other final spot after recording a hard-fought 2-1 victory in their semi-final.
The final will be played on Friday at the GFA Technical Centre.
