In an official statement released on May 25, 2026, the Ghana international disclosed that the incident occurred over the weekend while he was representing Ghana.
According to the statement, Afena-Gyan returned to Italy after his national team assignment only to discover that his apartment had been unlawfully entered and several personal belongings stolen.
The statement reassured supporters that the player was not physically harmed and remains in a positive state of mind despite the unfortunate incident.
“The matter has been formally reported to the relevant Italian law enforcement authorities, who are actively investigating the case,” the statement said.
Although videos and reports linked to the burglary have been circulating on social media and other media platforms, the statement noted that no further details about the stolen items would be made public for now in order to protect the ongoing investigation.
The player’s management also appealed to the media and the public to respect Afena-Gyan’s privacy during this difficult period. They urged people to avoid sharing videos or images showing details of his residence.
