In an official statement released on May 25, 2026, the Ghana international disclosed that the incident occurred over the weekend while he was representing Ghana.
According to the statement, Afena-Gyan returned to Italy after his national team assignment only to discover that his apartment had been unlawfully entered and several personal belongings stolen.
