The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man over allegations of distributing illicit drugs at Paga in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region.

The suspect, Tumbana Ane, was apprehended during a police operation that resulted in the seizure of 38 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 5, the Police said officers searched the suspect’s residence and found the 38 parcels of the suspected narcotic substance.

Other prohibited substances, including Tramadol, were also recovered during the search.

Following the discovery, the Police expanded their investigations to establish the full extent of the suspect’s activities and determine whether other individuals may be connected to the alleged drug trade.

The Command said officers also uncovered a tunnel at the suspect’s residence while conducting the search.

According to the Police, the tunnel may have been intentionally constructed and used by Ane to conceal the illicit substances and potentially provide an escape route in an attempt to avoid arrest or detection.
