NAIMOS seizes 15 motorbikes in anti-galamsey operation at Eniamoah

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has intensified its fight against galamsey, seizing 15 motorbikes during a targeted operation at Eniamoah near Ntoboroso in the Ashanti Region.

The exercise, conducted on April 13, 2026, followed intelligence reports of escalating illegal mining activities along the Offin River, a key water body increasingly threatened by pollution and environmental degradation.

A NAIMOS task force operating from Manso Adubia moved into the area between 11:20 am and 5:30 pm to clamp down on the illegal operations.

Upon arrival, the team discovered active mining taking place directly within the Offin River, underscoring the growing scale and boldness of galamsey activities in the enclave.

However, the suspected illegal miners fled into nearby bushes upon sighting the approaching security personnel, abandoning their logistics and equipment in the process.

The task force subsequently confiscated 15 motorbikes, believed to have been used by the miners to facilitate their operations in the area.

Officials say the development highlights a concerning concentration of illegal mining activities along that stretch of the river, raising fresh alarms about the continued destruction of Ghana’s water bodies.

In response, NAIMOS has indicated that the Blue Water Guards will intensify patrols in and around Eniamoah and Ntoboroso to prevent the miners from regrouping and resuming their activities.
