Samu Spices founder dead after short illness

Ghana’s food industry is mourning the death of respected entrepreneur and founder of Samu Spices, Hajia Zenaib Jumai Meizongo, whose popular Saamu brand became a household name across the country.

Hajia Zenaib passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2026, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after a short illness.

She was surrounded by members of her family during her final moments.

In keeping with Islamic tradition, she was buried on Monday, July 6, 2026.

Known for her entrepreneurial vision, Hajia Zenaib transformed Samu Spices from a small business in Nima, Accra, into one of Ghana’s leading seasoning brands.

Over the years, the company expanded to produce 16 different spice blends tailored to Ghanaian meals and consumer tastes.

Under her leadership, the brand earned a reputation for quality, affordability and innovation.

Its product range included Royal Yaji, multipurpose seasonings and specialised meat powders, while its popular maxi packs, priced between GH¢150 and GH¢200, made quality spices more accessible to households nationwide.

Beyond her achievements in business, Hajia Zenaib inspired many as a successful Ghanaian entrepreneur whose determination and hard work turned a modest community enterprise into a trusted national brand.

Her passing marks a significant loss to Ghana’s small and medium-sized business sector.

Since news of her death emerged, customers, business partners and admirers have paid tribute to her, remembering her not only as an accomplished entrepreneur but also as a compassionate community leader.

The Staff and Management of Ignite Media Group (IMG), together with the family of the late Hajia Zenaib Jumai Meizongo, have expressed profound sorrow over her passing.

They extended their heartfelt condolences to her children, siblings, relatives and all who knew her, praying for strength and comfort for the family during this difficult time.

They also honoured her remarkable contribution to Ghana’s food industry and the lasting impact she made on the country’s entrepreneurial landscape.
