The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has postponed the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year indefinitely due to an ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, the university announced that students would no longer report to campus on October 13, 2026, as originally planned.
According to the university’s management, the decision was made because the ongoing strike has affected the smooth running of the institution’s administrative activities.
The statement was signed by Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, Deputy Registrar of the University Relations Office, on behalf of the Registrar.
Explaining the reason for the postponement, management said:
“This decision has become necessary in view of the ongoing strike action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and its impact on the University’s effective operations and administration.
“Students, parents, guardians, and all other stakeholders are kindly advised to take note of this development,” the statement said.
The university has not announced a new date for the reopening of the academic year. Management, however, assured students and other stakeholders that further information would be provided once a revised date had been decided.
KNUST also apologised for any inconvenience the postponement might cause and thanked students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders for their patience, understanding and cooperation as the university works through the situation.
