16 passengers survive bus fire along Bole-Sawla road

A total of 16 passengers travelling from Kumasi to Wa escaped unhurt after the Yutong bus conveying them caught fire at Gbogdaa, a farming community situated along the Bole-Sawla highway in the Savannah Region.

The incident happened on Sunday, October 4, 2026, and resulted in the destruction of passengers’ belongings, including goods and other valuable items they were carrying.

Some passengers said they noticed the smell of fuel coming from the vehicle before it arrived at Gbogdaa and Mankuma in the Bole District.

According to them, the vehicle later began to overheat, forcing the driver to pull over and check what was wrong.

The situation soon became serious when the bus burst into flames, consuming the belongings and goods belonging to the passengers.

Despite the intensity of the fire, all 16 passengers were able to get off the bus safely. Personnel from the Sawla Fire Station later arrived at the scene and worked to extinguish the flames.

No fatalities or injuries have been recorded in connection with the incident.

The fire has, however, renewed concerns over the availability of firefighting equipment in the Bole District, particularly because the Bole Fire Service tender has reportedly remained out of service for some time.

As a result, the district has had to depend on the Sawla fire tender to respond to emergencies.
