NPP sets September 19 for election of national officers

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the date for its National Delegates Conference scheduled on Saturday, September 19, 2026, where delegates will elect new national officers to steer the affairs of the party.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 8, the party said the date was approved by the National Council following a proposal from the National Executive Committee (NEC) during meetings held on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

The conference will be held in accordance with Article 10(1) of the NPP Constitution, which mandates delegates of the party to elect national officers.

The party stated, “The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has fixed Saturday, September 19, 2026, as the date for its National Delegates Conference, at which delegates will, among other matters, elect National Officers of the Party pursuant to Article 10(1) of the Party Constitution.”

The upcoming conference is expected to produce a new crop of national executives who will oversee the party’s organisation and preparations ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Ahead of the elections, the NPP has also opened a process for members and other stakeholders to submit proposals for amendments to the party’s constitution.

According to the party, the move is aimed at reviewing and strengthening its internal structures, improving democratic practices and enhancing governance within the organisation.

The NPP said all proposed amendments must be submitted to the Office of the General Secretary at the party’s national headquarters or sent electronically through nppconstitutionalamendment@gmail.com by Friday, July 17, 2026.

The invitation for constitutional amendments is being made in line with Article 19(2) of the party’s Constitution, which provides a framework for reviewing the governing document of the party.

The party encouraged members, supporters and stakeholders to actively participate in the amendment process, describing it as an important opportunity to improve the effectiveness of its structures.

“The Party encourages all members and stakeholders to actively participate in this important exercise as we seek to strengthen our structures, enhance internal democratic practices, and improve governance,” the statement added.

The NPP reaffirmed its commitment to constitutionalism, internal democracy and the rule of law as it prepares for the National Delegates Conference.

The election of new national officers forms part of the party’s broader efforts to reorganise its structures following its performance in the 2024 general elections and position itself ahead of the next electoral cycle.
