The New Patriotic Party (NPP) believes the government is deliberately trying to distract Ghanaians from concerns about the Bank of Ghana’s financial losses.
They say this is being done on purpose to shift public attention away from the issue.
Yaw Opoku-Mensah, former spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, explained that the increase in different political discussions, such as Air Ghana and the PDS concession, could be part of a plan to take focus off the central bank’s problems.
“Government is using a certain form of narration that seeks to divert attention from the real issues at the Bank of Ghana,” he said.
He also claimed that some government officials and communicators are heavily promoting other topics in the media so people don’t pay much attention to what is happening at the Bank of Ghana.
“This is a form of media warfare… to take our minds off the core issues affecting livelihoods,” he said.
Opoku-Mensah added that even though the government says the economy is improving, many ordinary Ghanaians are not seeing or feeling that change in their everyday lives.
“You hear of single-digit inflation and exchange rate stability, but these are not reflected in the market,” he said.
He warned that if these important economic issues are not properly addressed, people could lose trust. He also called for more transparency and honest discussions about the country’s economic policies and how they are being handled.
