The Bekwai Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced a 23-year-old mason to 15 years in prison after being convicted of defilement involving a four-year-old girl at Manso Afedie.
The convict, Ebenezer Birikwei, was sentenced after the court determined his guilt following investigations and trial proceedings conducted by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.
Court documents reveal that the offence took place on 16 April, and the case was prosecuted by Chief Inspector Eric Twum.
The victim underwent a medical examination at St. Martin’s Catholic Hospital, Agroyesum, with the findings presented in court as part of the prosecution’s evidence.
The Bekwai Circuit Court, presided over by Judge Isaac Apietu, imposed the 15-year custodial sentence following the conviction.
