The Minority caucus in Parliament has criticised the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, describing the presentation as uninspiring and lacking the substance needed to address the concerns of Ghanaians.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin made the remarks while reacting to the review presented by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson on Thursday, July 23.
According to the Effutu MP, the presentation contained broad claims about government achievements but failed to provide sufficient details and evidence to support the assertions made.
Mr Afenyo-Markin questioned the level of accountability in the review, particularly regarding government expenditure, payments made and the implementation of key policies.
He argued that Parliament and the public deserved more detailed information on how state resources had been utilised, insisting that the government’s claims needed to be backed by facts.
The Minority Leader further accused the government of relying on rhetoric rather than offering concrete solutions to the economic and social challenges facing citizens.
“This review is full of English with empty promises. The payment they say they have done, why didn’t they give us details?” he questioned.

“Mr Speaker, this review is uninspiring, and there is no inspiration in it. What we are experiencing in this country is persecution. You are persecuting people, and you are here telling us you are running an economy,” he said.
He maintained that the Minority would continue to scrutinise government policies and demand accountability on behalf of the Ghanaian people.
