The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has shut down 44 food manufacturing facilities across the country as part of a nationwide inspection to enforce the Ga East and Ga West Municipalities on Wednesday, July 22, the FDA closed several facilities that were operating without licences and in poor sanitary conditions.

During inspections in the Ga East and Ga West Municipalities on Wednesday, July 22, the FDA closed several facilities that were operating without licences and in poor sanitary conditions.
Inspectors also found that some businesses were producing food products without the required approval from the Authority.
Speaking to the media after the operation, the FDA’s Head of Communications, Mrs Rhoda Ewurabena Appiah, said the Authority will continue to enforce food safety regulations to protect the public and ensure that only licensed businesses are allowed to operate.
“Several facilities have been closed down,” she said, stressing that the FDA remains committed to protecting consumers by taking firm action against operators who flout the law.
As part of the inspection, the FDA also shut down Virgen Natural Mineral Water, a sachet water production facility at Ashongman in the Ga East Municipality, after officials found that it was operating without the required licence.
The FDA has reminded all food manufacturers to follow the country’s food safety regulations and obtain the necessary licences. It warned that businesses that fail to comply could face sanctions, including the closure of their facilities.
