Carlos Queiroz has revealed that his plans for the Black Stars go beyond the immediate international fixtures, with the 2030 World Cup already forming part of his long-term vision.
The Ghana coach says the current period provides an opportunity to start building a team capable of competing strongly at the next World Cup.
Queiroz described the start of the new cycle as an important moment for Ghana football.
He wants the Black Stars to develop into a team capable of honouring Ghana’s history and tradition at the World Cup.
“Hands on the present, eyes on the future,” Queiroz said in an interview with the Ghana Football Association.
While the coach has identified AFCON qualification as the immediate target, he believes every training session and match should also contribute to the development of the team for the future.
Queiroz said the experience gained from the previous World Cup has helped his technical team understand the players better.
He praised the squad’s quality and character and said he was proud to be part of the national team setup.
The Portuguese coach also wants competition for places to be based on players’ current form and physical readiness.
He explained that his technical team conducts detailed monitoring before selecting players for the national team.
Queiroz believes Ghana must also raise its standards if it wants to compete with Africa’s leading sides.
He noted that several top African teams have players performing regularly at the highest level of European football.
