Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has praised his players for their performance after securing a 2-1 victory over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League.
Mourinho admitted that the match was difficult, with his team facing problems in midfield and having to deal with a high level of intensity from the Italian side.
Despite those challenges, the Portuguese coach was pleased with the way his players responded. He said they showed character and worked hard to secure an important victory in their opening Champions League match.
Mourinho also rejected the idea that the game was dull, pointing to the number of chances created by his team. He believes Real Madrid could have gone into the break with a much bigger advantage.
The coach said his side had an opportunity to make it 3-0 shortly before half-time. He added that, had Madrid reached that scoreline, they could potentially have gone on to win by four or five goals.

Real Madrid eventually settled for a 2-1 victory, but the result gave Mourinho a positive start to his Champions League return with the Spanish giants.
The performance also showed the attacking threat available to his team, even though they were unable to turn several opportunities into goals.
The victory came against a strong Inter side and could prove important as Madrid begin their European campaign.
The Champions League remains one of the club’s major targets, and Mourinho will be expected to guide the team deep into the competition.
