Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has expressed his disappointment after being informed that the club is not currently in a position to offer him a new contract.
The Argentina international revealed that the decision particularly hurt him because he has consistently given his best for Liverpool since joining the club from Brighton in 2023.
Mac Allister said the situation became more difficult for him after teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch were rewarded with new long-term contracts.
“I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which makes me very, very sad,” Mac Allister said ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid.
The 27-year-old, however, stressed that he remains committed to Liverpool and will continue to give his best for the club.
He also confirmed that he had opportunities to leave during the recent transfer window but stayed at Anfield.
Reports have linked him with interest from other major European clubs, although Mac Allister has previously indicated that he was not looking to leave.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Mac Allister insisted that Liverpool supporters have no reason to worry about his commitment.
“The fans don’t need to worry. I will give 100% until the last day I’m here,” he said.
Mac Allister still has two years remaining on his current Liverpool contract, which runs until June 2028. He joined the club in 2023 and has since established himself as an important member of the midfield.
He has made 153 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing 20 assists.
His current situation is notable because Liverpool have recently secured new deals for both Szoboszlai and Gravenberch. Szoboszlai signed a new long-term contract in July after an impressive season, while Gravenberch also agreed an extended deal.
