Chelsea defender Jorrel Hato has expressed excitement over the club’s decision to appoint Xabi Alonso as head coach, describing the Spaniard as a “big name” with a strong record in football.
Speaking in a recent interview, Hato praised Alonso’s achievements both as a player and as a manager, insisting that Chelsea made the right choice by bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
“I think Chelsea made a good decision to get Xabi Alonso,” Hato said. “I’m excited. I knew him as a player and watched him growing up at Liverpool and Real Madrid.”
The young defender added that Alonso’s success in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen also played a big role in shaping his opinion of the new Chelsea boss.
“He did very well at Leverkusen too, and they became champions,” he added. “He was at Madrid. He’s a big name, so I’m very excited.”
Alonso arrives at Chelsea with high expectations after enjoying an impressive spell at Leverkusen, where he guided the club to major domestic success and earned praise for his attacking style of football and tactical flexibility.
Hato also made it clear that he is ready to adapt to any system Alonso may introduce at Chelsea. The Dutch defender said he is comfortable playing in different defensive formations and is focused mainly on helping the team.
“I’ve played in a back three and a back four,” he explained. “For me, I don’t care about where I want to play. I just want to play.”
