Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson says his players have recovered from their disappointing opening defeat to Ecuador and are ready to fight for a positive result against South Korea at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Ghana suffered a 3-0 defeat to Ecuador in their opening Group C match on Sunday, leaving the team under pressure to secure points from their remaining games.
The Black Princesses will face South Korea today, Wednesday, September 9, with a win vital to keeping their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.
Sampson believes the players have put the disappointment behind them after returning to training and are now fully focused on the next challenge.
“Our training was good, thank God. Now I can say confidently that the girls have come over the last game’s shocker and the emotions in it. So now we are ready to go,” he said.
The coach admitted that the defeat to Ecuador was a difficult game for Ghana, with several things that normally worked for the team failing to produce the expected results.
He said the technical team has used the time available to work on the players’ confidence, particularly in the final third.
“We work on the final third almost all the time. We just need to give them more confidence in it and that’s why we train on them every day, so they score more goals and get more confident,” Sampson added.
Ghana had chances against Ecuador but struggled to convert them, while Ecuador took advantage of their opportunities to secure a comfortable victory.
