Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has earned a late call-up to Ghana’s national team squad ahead of the international friendly against Mexico later this month.
The experienced shot-stopper has been drafted in by Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz to replace Dreams FC’s 21-year-old goalkeeper Gidios Aseako, whose absence from the squad has not yet been officially explained by the Ghana Football Association.
Asare, who currently plays for Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League, is expected to join the rest of the Black Stars squad ahead of the match scheduled for Friday, May 22.
His inclusion comes as Ghana continues preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The goalkeeper brings valuable experience to the national team setup, having already made 11 appearances for the Black Stars.
His calm presence, leadership qualities, and strong performances at the club level have made him one of the most reliable goalkeepers in domestic football in recent seasons.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper was part of the previous Black Stars squad that qualified Ghana for the World Cup and has participated in recent international windows.
The Black Stars are expected to use the friendly against Mexico as an opportunity to test new players, improve team chemistry, and fine-tune tactics ahead of the World Cup campaign.
