More than four million fake, unregistered or non-compliant baby diapers have been confiscated nationwide following a market surveillance exercise by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA).
The exercise is aimed at removing unregistered and unbranded baby diapers from the market and protecting children and consumers from potentially unsafe products.
Nana Prempeh Okogyeabour Aduhene, Executive Director, Mediation and Arbitration at the Consumer Protection Agency, disclosed the figure, noting that the seizures form part of a nationwide campaign to enforce regulatory requirements.
The latest operation began in the Western Region on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, covering Takoradi and Tarkwa.
Surveillance teams inspected shops and business premises and seized various quantities of unregistered and unbranded diapers, including Softcare diapers.
In Takoradi, seizures were made at Kadiesoa Mothercare, Akosua Ventures, El-Vitessa Enterprise, Diaper House, R. Boys Everyday Needs, Kari-J Essentials and King C Ventures.
The operation was later extended to Koma Oyie Enterprise and businesses in Tarkwa, including Clevid Enterprise, Claxvis, Gladys Kwofie Anum Ventures and Brecom Enterprise.
The nationwide campaign has been running since the beginning of the year, with similar operations conducted across several regions.
The FDA and CPA are expected to continue the exercise in the Bono Region and other areas yet to be covered.
Authorities say the campaign will continue through the end of the year and have warned businesses against stocking or selling baby-care products that do not meet Ghana’s regulatory requirements.
