DVLA refutes reports of GH¢308k theft case involving National Service personnel

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has refuted claims that GH¢308,000 was misappropriated by a National Service personnel, labelling these assertions as incorrect and misleading.

In a statement released on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the DVLA clarified that the funds in question do not belong to the Authority and were not withdrawn from any of its accounts.

This clarification comes in response to media reports alleging that a DVLA Service Personnel embezzled GH¢308,000 to purchase a Hyundai Elantra saloon car, a 50-inch Samsung television, and to cover a sibling’s educational expenses.

The Authority indicated that the ongoing investigation pertains to a personal dispute involving a former National Service personnel who is currently under contract with the DVLA, emphasizing that the incident is unrelated to the Authority’s financial matters or official activities.

“The purported GH¢308,000 involved in this case does not belong to the DVLA and was not taken from the Authority or any of its accounts,” the statement asserted.

Furthermore, the Authority confirmed that it has not incurred any financial loss in connection with this case.

It clarified that although the individual is associated with the DVLA, the alleged wrongdoing involves two private individuals and should not be misrepresented as a theft of public funds belonging to the Authority.

The DVLA called on media organisations and the public to practice caution and accuracy in their reporting to prevent the creation of a false narrative suggesting that its funds have been misappropriated.

It reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
