Former Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye has been elected as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following a decisive victory in the party’s regional executive elections conducted on Saturday, August 15.
Dr. Okoe-Boye received 490 votes, defeating Alfred Boye, who garnered 172 votes, resulting in a margin of 318 votes.
His election occurs at a pivotal moment for the NPP in the Greater Accra Region, where the party aims to restore its political standing after experiencing a significant setback in the 2024 general elections.
Previously, the NPP held 14 of the region’s 34 parliamentary seats, but this number dwindled to five after the 2024 elections, leading to the loss of eight seats.
The party’s underwhelming performance in the region has intensified demands for enhanced organization, better grassroots mobilization, and a revitalized strategy to reclaim lost constituencies in preparation for the 2028 general elections.
Consequently, Dr. Okoe-Boye will be tasked with guiding the regional party structure through this rebuilding phase and collaborating with constituency executives to bolster the NPP’s presence throughout Greater Accra.
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman is tasked with coordinating the party’s constituency structures, mobilizing supporters, and supervising the execution of decisions made by the party’s leadership.
Dr. Okoe-Boye’s victory provides him with a clear mandate to lead the NPP in the region as the party endeavors to recover lost parliamentary seats and broaden its support base in anticipation of the 2028 elections.
