The Accra High Court has granted bail to the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, in the amount of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.
The ruling was delivered on Thursday, May 21, 2026, after the court heard the case.
Earlier, Circuit Court 9 in Accra had remanded Abronye DC into BNI custody over allegations of spreading false information.
His lawyers later filed an application challenging the remand order, arguing that there was no justification for his continued detention.
The case has drawn significant public and political interest, especially following his rearrest after he had previously been granted bail during ongoing investigations.
Before the High Court’s decision, the NPP criticised the handling of the bail process, describing the transfer of the case from Criminal Court Two to General Jurisdiction Two as “mind-boggling.”
According to the party, the transfer appeared to be a deliberate attempt to delay or frustrate the bail process.
The NPP also expressed concern over what it described as growing political intimidation targeting opposition figures.
