WAEC sanctions Ekumfi T.I Ahmadiya SHS over alleged exam malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has sanctioned Ekumfi T.I. Ahmadiya Senior High School in the Central Region over alleged examination malpractice during the ongoing 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates.

According to WAEC, the decision was taken after investigations revealed that two teachers of the school were allegedly involved in compromising the integrity of the French Paper 1 examination.

The Council said the development raised serious concerns about the school’s ability to conduct examinations under strict supervision.

In a letter issued by WAEC’s Central Regional Office to the school authorities, the Council stated that it could “no longer trust the integrity of the school to conduct the examinations without malpractice,” leading to the relocation of candidates.

As part of the sanctions, all candidates from Ekumfi T.I. Ahmadiya SHS have been directed to continue their remaining examination papers at Mankessim Senior High Technical School under tighter supervision and new invigilation arrangements.

WAEC explained that the move is aimed at safeguarding the credibility of the ongoing examinations and ensuring that candidates are assessed under fair and transparent conditions.

However, the Council noted that the Chemistry 3 Alternative A practical examination will still be conducted at the school premises under strict monitoring.

The affected teachers have reportedly been arrested to assist investigations into the alleged malpractice, while WAEC says further disciplinary and legal actions may follow depending on the outcome of inquiries.

The Council has reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of public examinations and warned schools and examination officials against any acts that could compromise the credibility of the WASSCE.
