The Ghana Police Service has secured the conviction of a 23-year-old man for defiling a 12-year-old girl in the Volta Region.
According to a press release from the Volta North Regional Police Command, the convict, Felix Agbodzi, committed the crime at Gbi-Akplamafu, a community near Hohoe.
Police said preliminary investigations showed that the suspect lured the young girl to his residence, where he sexually abused her.
The statement explained that the suspect was arrested on April 13, 2026, following reports made to the police.
He was arraigned before the Hohoe Circuit Court the next day, April 14, 2026. The case was presided over by His Honour Lambert Yiringabaque Kariba.
In court, Felix Agbodzi pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement. The offence is contrary to Section 101(2) of Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which deals with sexual offences involving minors.
Following his guilty plea, the court sentenced him to seven years in prison.
The police say the conviction highlights their continued efforts to fight crimes against children and protect vulnerable members of society.
They also used the opportunity to send a strong warning to others who may be involved in similar acts, stating that anyone found guilty will face the full force of the law.
The Volta North Regional Police Command further called on the public to support the fight against such crimes. Residents were encouraged to report cases of defilement and other forms of abuse promptly to the nearest police station.
