Ghana Grid Company Limited has confirmed that a fire incident at its Akosombo Substation in the Eastern Region interrupted power supply to various parts of the country on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Emergency response teams were promptly dispatched to the location to manage the situation and initiate assessments to evaluate the extent of the damage.

As stated by the company, technical teams are currently working to stabilise the system and restore normal power supply at the earliest opportunity.

A statement from GRIDCo reassured the public that measures are being taken to handle the situation and mitigate the effects of the disruption.

“We wish to assure the public that our technical teams are actively working to manage the situation, and every effort is being made to stabilise the system and minimise disruptions,” the company said.

GRIDCo further mentioned that a comprehensive technical evaluation is currently in progress to inform restoration efforts, with additional updates anticipated as more information becomes available.

The company has encouraged the public to remain calm while restoration activities are ongoing, emphasising that strategies are in place to swiftly return the system to normal operation.
