The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School (KNUST SHS) in Kumasi has confirmed the death of one of its students who fell ill during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
School management has expressed deep sadness over the loss and said it is supporting the bereaved family during this difficult time.
It also assured that the remaining candidates are receiving the care and encouragement they need to continue their exams in a calm environment.
The school reported that another registered candidate has stopped attending classes and is currently not taking part in the examinations.
At the same time, a pregnant candidate successfully sat for the English Oral examination alongside her peers, showing up for her paper without difficulty.
A total of 1,022 students from KNUST SHS are participating in this year’s WASSCE as core subjects continue nationwide.
The Assistant Headmaster (Academic) and Assistant Examination Supervisor, Agyekum Kwaku, said the examination process has gone smoothly so far.
He also noted that the school enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice.
He added that staff members have maintained close supervision throughout the exercise. According to him, invigilators and supervisors have worked carefully to ensure that all candidates follow the rules.
Across the country, more than 500,000 candidates continue writing the WASSCE under stable conditions, according to verified sources.
