Black Stars leave camp as Morocco friendly is cancelled

The Black Stars have reportedly left camp after being informed that their planned international friendly against Morocco has been cancelled.

The match, scheduled for October 4 in Tangier, was expected to give head coach Carlos Queiroz an additional opportunity to assess his squad following Ghana’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures. The cancellation was reported on September 30, with no official reason immediately provided.

The development comes after Ghana’s earlier friendly against Tanzania also fell through, despite Tanzania having initially announced the fixture.

Ghana subsequently confirmed plans to face Morocco instead, with the Ghana Football Association describing the game as part of the international window for squad assessment.

The latest cancellation leaves Queiroz without the additional friendly he was expected to use to continue building his squad and assess some of the new players brought into the team.

The Portuguese coach had already raised concerns about the difficulty of building continuity when several players are regularly unavailable, saying Ghana must find a way to develop a core group.

The Black Stars began their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire before suffering another setback against The Gambia.
