An Accra High Court has granted the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) a warrant to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, in connection with an ongoing investigation.
The order was issued after EOCO applied to the court, arguing that its officers had exhausted reasonable avenues to secure the legislator’s voluntary attendance.
The anti-graft agency also expressed concerns that documents relevant to its investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed. It therefore sought judicial authority not only to arrest the MP but also to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the case.
The development follows an earlier attempt by EOCO officials to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23. The attempted arrest resulted in a confrontation at the court premises.
EOCO subsequently explained that the action was part of an investigation for which the MP had been invited twice in February 2026.
Baffour Awuah, however, has disputed EOCO’s account. He has said the matter relates to SIC Life Savings and Loans Company, which was a client of his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners.
According to the MP, after he referred EOCO’s February invitation to the Clerk to Parliament, a representative of the law firm appeared before investigators on March 4, March 18 and April 30 and supplied information requested by the agency, including a written statement.
The investigation also touches on financial dealings involving SIC Life Savings and Loans and Equity Savings and Loans.
Mr Baffour Awuah has explained that his former firm was contracted by SIC Life Savings and Loans to recover about GH¢3.5 million invested with Equity Savings and Loans. He said the amount, including interest, later increased to approximately GH¢14 million before a settlement was negotiated.
EOCO has not publicly released the full details of its investigation.
The latest court order now gives the agency legal authority to proceed with the arrest and the search and seizure of documents connected to the probe.
