AFCON 2027 set for June 19–July 17 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced the dates for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The tournament will start on June 19, 2027, and end with the final on July 17, 2027.

This edition will be special because it will be hosted by three countries—Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

It will be the first time in history that AFCON is hosted by three nations together.

CAF says this will help grow the tournament in East Africa and reach a much larger audience, with over 400 million people expected to follow the games.

It will also be the first time AFCON is being played in that region since the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations, meaning the region has waited more than 50 years to host again.

CAF also announced that the draw for the qualifiers will take place on May 19, 2026. A total of 48 teams, including the host countries, will take part.

The teams will be divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the main tournament.

The qualification matches will be played during FIFA international breaks between September and October 2026, November 2026, and March 2027.
