Ahafo police kills an armed robbery suspect

A 23-year-old robbery suspect, Ali Mohammed, who had been on the police wanted list for some time, has reportedly been shot dead during an exchange of fire with police officers.

Police say Mohammed was preparing for another robbery operation with members of his gang at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region on June 2, 2026.

Acting on intelligence, officers moved in to stop the planned attack.

However, Mohammed allegedly refused to surrender and instead opened fire on the security team.

Armed with an AK-47 rifle, he engaged the police in a heavy gun battle. Officers returned fire and struck him. He was later taken to the Goaso Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations show that Mohammed had long been on the radar of security agencies.

He was wanted in connection with the murder of Dominic Frimpong, which occurred on April 12, 2026, along the Akyiresu–Kwame Dwomo Sreso road in the Ahafo Region.

A police report also linked him to two earlier robbery incidents at Bosomkyekye on the Mampong–Ejura road in July 2025 and February 2026. One of those attacks led to the death of a driver’s mate.

“The suspect was also wanted in connection with two separate robbery attacks at Bosomkyekye on the Mampong–Ejura road in July 2025 and February 2026, which resulted in the death of a driver’s mate,” a police report sighted by the paper, disclosed.

“During the operation at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, the suspect engaged the police with an AK-47 rifle, but he was overpowered and sustained gunshot injuries. He was taken to the Goaso Government Hospital for medical attention but he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

After the operation, police recovered several items from the scene, including an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, two AK-47 magazines, nine rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a motorbike ignition key, a black nose mask, four talismans, and a sack.

Security officials have also identified additional suspects believed to be part of Mohammed’s gang.

Omar Chad, Dauda Tahidu, Suley, and others are currently on the run. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest them and bring them to justice.
