Medeama SC have started the new football season with a trophy after defeating Nations FC 2-0 to win the 2026 Champion of Champions at the TNA Stadium on Sunday, August 30.
The Ghana Premier League champions produced a composed performance to overcome the MTN FA Cup winners, with goals from defender Fatawu Sulemana and winger Emmanuel Annor securing the victory.
Medeama made a bright start to the game and were rewarded with the opening goal in the first half. Sulemana stepped up to take a penalty and calmly converted to put the Mauve and Yellows ahead.
Nations FC tried to respond but struggled to break through Medeama’s defence, with the league champions maintaining their advantage into the second half.
Medeama continued to control important periods of the match after the break and eventually doubled their lead through Annor.
The winger produced a fine finish against his former club, showing great composure to lift the ball over the Nations FC goalkeeper and make it 2-0.
The Champion of Champions traditionally brings together the winners of the Ghana Premier League and the MTN FA Cup and serves as the curtain-raiser for the new domestic season.
The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League is scheduled to begin between September 4 and 7, but Medeama will first turn their attention to the CAF Champions League.
The Ghanaian champions will host DR Congo giants TP Mazembe at home on Sunday, September 6, in the first leg of their preliminary-round tie.
Nations FC will also be involved in continental action. The FA Cup winners will travel to Bamako, Mali, where they will face FC Diarra at the Stade Mamadou Konaté on Saturday, September 5, in the CAF Confederation Cup.
