Anti corruption-campaigner, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has questioned the quality of evidence presented in the prosecution of former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe, saying key aspects of the investigation were left unverified.
Barker-Vormawor said several issues raised during the trial required additional evidence before criminal liability could be established.
Referring to the Obaatanpa Microfinance transaction, he said investigators should have established how the investment was made, whether contractual terms existed, and what documentation supported the movement of funds.
“We are not any the wiser as to any of that arrangement,” he said on JoyNews’ Newsfile.
He also questioned why witnesses who allegedly handled key documents were not called to testify and why bank records were not presented to trace the movement of money.
“When the money was withdrawn and paid in cash, we don’t have any information as to whether there was a corresponding bank account that shows withdrawal of the same amount,” Barker-Vormawor stated.
He stressed that he was not claiming Sedina Tamakloe did not receive the money.
“I am not saying that the money was not paid to Sedina. I am saying that when I look at how the investigative record was built towards establishing guilt, I do not think that’s sufficient,” he said.
