Violent youth clash in Wa leaves several injured, motorbikes destroyed

A clash between two youth factions in Wa has resulted in multiple injuries, with two motorbikes destroyed following a violent altercation in sections of the Upper West Regional capital.

The unrest reportedly ensued from a disagreement among members of the two factions at a nightclub on Sunday, June 7, which subsequently escalated into a series of confrontations.

Information gathered suggests that in the early hours of Monday, June 8, some young men believed to be affiliated with one of the factions moved to Nima, a youth stronghold situated in the Jengbeyiri area of Wa.

The group allegedly vandalised property belonging to an individual associated with the rival faction, an incident that further intensified the animosity between the two groups.

Later that day, the situation escalated when two young men from Kambali arrived at Nima Camp on separate motorbikes.

Eyewitnesses report that the two were assaulted by individuals wielding cutlasses, resulting in serious injuries.

The motorcycles they were riding were subsequently set ablaze amid the turmoil, leaving them in ruins.

Others caught in the incident are also reported to have sustained injuries during the upheaval.

Authorities have intervened to manage the situation, with personnel from the police, military, and national security deployed in the area to avert further violence.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has yet to provide an official statement regarding the situation.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the clash and hold those involved accountable.
