Man jailed 5 years for stabbing sister’s eyes at Sefwi Abrokofe

A 55-year-old man who brutally stabbed his sister in both eyes with a pair of scissors during a domestic dispute at Sefwi Abrokofe has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by a court in the Western North Region.

The convict, William Gyamfi, popularly known as Kwasi Manso, was found guilty after the court heard evidence surrounding the violent attack, which left the victim, Akua Agyeiwaa, with severe injuries and sparked outrage within the community.

The incident occurred following a misunderstanding between the siblings at Sefwi Abrokofe in the Juaboso District.

According to police investigations, the disagreement escalated into violence, during which Gyamfi allegedly picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed his sister in both eyes.

The victim, believed to be in her early 50s, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Juaboso Government Hospital for emergency treatment.

Following a distress report, police officers were deployed to the community to arrest the suspect. However, before the arrival of the police, some angry residents reportedly attacked Gyamfi in an attempt to subject him to mob justice over the gruesome assault.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect had sustained injuries, including a swollen eye, forehead wounds and bleeding from his leg.

He was first taken to the Juaboso Government Hospital for treatment before being discharged into police custody to assist with investigations.

During the trial, prosecutors told the court that investigations established that the accused intentionally attacked his sister during the domestic dispute, causing life-altering injuries.

The court subsequently convicted him and imposed a five-year custodial sentence.

Meanwhile, the victim is reportedly continuing to receive medical care following the traumatic injuries she sustained in the attack.
