Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has called on musician Mzbel to provide further details to assist with investigations into claims that her relative died after allegedly being unable to secure a hospital bed.
The appeal follows a video circulating on social media in which Mzbel alleged that her relative lost their life because no bed was available at the hospital.
In a statement issued on Tuesday July 7, the hospital’s management said it had taken the allegation seriously and had made efforts to reach Mzbel and her family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the hospital, the investigation aims to determine whether the patient arrived at Korle Bu and was denied admission due to a lack of beds, or whether the patient had not yet been transferred and was advised to wait until space became available.
Management said it had so far been unable to speak directly with the family and appealed to Mzbel to share information that would help establish the facts and support a comprehensive investigation into the claims made in her video.
Korle Bu also reaffirmed its commitment to the government’s directive that no public health facility should turn away emergency patients.
It noted that the policy, announced by President John Dramani Mahama during the 2026 State of the Nation Address and reinforced by the Minister for Health, remains in effect.
The hospital further disclosed that its Board has acquired additional beds and other essential equipment to ease pressure caused by limited bed capacity.
It added that staff across its clinical and emergency units have been repeatedly reminded of their responsibility to provide emergency care in line with the national policy.
Management stressed that any intentional refusal to attend to an emergency patient would constitute a serious violation of hospital policy and would be subject to a thorough investigation.
The hospital also encouraged patients and their relatives to report concerns through its official complaints channels, including its telephone lines, online complaints portal, and QR codes displayed throughout the facility, to enable prompt investigations and appropriate action.
Korle Bu extended its condolences to the bereaved family and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a fair, transparent, and professional investigation to establish the full facts surrounding the incident.
