The Fisheries Enforcement Unit (FEU), under the leadership of Commodore Faustina Anokye Boakye, carried out an operation at the Tema Fishing Harbour on Tuesday morning, leading to the arrest of two inshore fishing operators.
Officials arrested the suspects for fishing without valid licenses and for using fishing gear that did not meet approved standards.
After the operation, authorities handed them over to the Tema Police, who will conduct further investigations and prepare the cases for court proceedings.
The arrests form part of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture’s ongoing efforts to tackle illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities across the country.
Through these operations, the ministry aims to strengthen compliance with fisheries laws and protect Ghana’s marine resources.
The ministry praised the Fisheries Enforcement Unit for its alertness and quick response.
It emphasised that strong enforcement measures play a vital role in safeguarding fish stocks and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the fishing industry.
The ministry also reminded fishing operators to follow all regulations, secure the required licenses, and use approved fishing equipment.
According to the ministry, compliance with these rules is essential to preserving the country’s fisheries resources and supporting a sustainable future for the sector.
